Azamor Collection
Our Azamor collection of wines has improved over the years through respecting our unequalled location, soil, climate, grape varieties and traditions. All of our wines reflect the Azamor estates uniqueness combined with a sophisticated savoir-faire, making our wines special. From our vineyard directly to your table.
How we started
Our journey started in 1998 when we acquired the estate which had belonged to the Luiz Gomes family for many years. Our first wine, Azamor 2003, was produced from the oldest sectors of the vineyard. During 2004, the whole vineyard was harvested and we were unsure what quality we would obtain. We were pleasantly surprised with the vintage providing grapes that were deliciously fruity with an unusual balance and freshness. The Petit Verdot grape variety, picked & fermented with a touch of “Monvedré”, astonished us so much that we decided to age the wine in French oak barrels. Our Single variety Petit Verdot was born. It was also during this vintage (2004) that two of our most iconic wines emerged: Azamor Selected Vines and Icon d’Azamor. 2004, it turned out, was one of the best vintages of the decade.
Our aim is to improve our wines every vintage, year after year. In fact every season, our unique fruity, complex, beautifully balanced and elegant wines continue to please clients all over the world.
By creating authentic wines which express the unique character and tradition of our vineyard. We are considered one of the top producers in the Alentejo region in Portugal.

The Estate
The stunning Azamor property has a “raw” beauty that is rare in nature and awe inspiring. Offering stunning views, Azamor has a total of 260 hectares, 25 hectares are planted with vines, 30 hectares with cork oaks and pines, 140 hectares recently modernized with 50-year-old olive groves, and 62 hectares of Portuguese oak trees home to some Lusitano Horses.
The vineyards were designed and planted in 2001 and 2002 by Joaquim and Eng. Luís Elias Carvalho, one of the most well-known and respected Portuguese viticulturists. The Azamor vineyard comprises of 25 hectares, is situated around 350 m above sea level, with a north - south orientation. The plant density is an unusual 2.2m by 0.9m, this contributes to an exposed leaf area per hectare at least two times higher than the national average. There are four types of Portuguese grape varieties planted - Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet - and three international varieties - Syrah, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
